a. Note:   N4630 1st Lord Knovill. Nothing is known of his parentage. He was a supporter of the King in the barons� war. Henry III gave Gravenhill, Gloucestershire, to him about 1270. He was sheriff of Shropshire and Staffordshire from October 27, 1274, to October 25, 1278. He was keeper of the castles of Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury. He appears to have been custodian of Oswestry Castle about 1275-1277. He was keeper of Dolvoran Castle and land of Kedewy from une 16, 1278, to January 7, 1278/79. He was appointed to various commissions from 1279 onwards. He was summoned against the Welsh in August, 1282. He was at court in June, 1284. In October, 1294, he was orered to muster under the command of Richard, earl of Arundel, for the relief of Bere Castle. He was summoned to Parliament from June 24, 1295, to November 3, 306, by writs directed Bogoni de Knoville, whereby he is held to have become lord Knovill.
