Note: Obituary from Wayne County Press, 12/25/1980: Walter Weaver, 96, Dies One of Wayne county's oldest residents, Walter W. Weaver, a former Wayne County Treasurer and Clerk, died at about noon Thursday while he was eating his Christmas dinner in the Rest Haven Manor in Albion. He was 96. Mr. Weaver had been in frail health for quite some time. He had been a patient at the Albion nursing home for almost a year. His family felt his health had been good considering his age. He died from a heart attack. Services Held Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday (today) at the First United Methodist church where Rev. B.R. Cummins officiated, assisted by Rev. Darrell Snider. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Nales Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Mr. Weaver was born in Wayne county on June 26, 1884, the son of Albert and Mary Esta (Hoard) Weaver. When he was a child, he and his family lived in Indiana for a while before returning to Illinois. He was married to Melinda Shehorn July 6, 1904. She died in 1966. In Courthouse Mr. Weaver farmed four miles south of Johnsonville earlier in his life. However, in the 1920's, he was elected to public office. He served one term as Wayne county clerk and one term as Wayne county treasurer. He also served many years as a deputy in the Treasurer's office under the terms of Sterling Ellis, D.V. Wheeler, Forrest Scott, Harold Werner and David Dickey, spanning 28 years total. He was a member of the Arrington Prairie church in the Bailey community, but attended both the First United Methodist church and the General Baptist churches in Fairfield. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Fairfield. The Survivors Surviving are two sons, Clyde "Doc" Weaver, of Fairfield; and Otis, of Urbana; one daughter, Mrs. Evan (Flo) Burton, of Springfield; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Charlie of Wayne City, John, of Meade, Kan; and one sister, Mrs. Dova Lowe, of Alton. He was preceded in death by his widow; two sons, Bennie and an infant son; a brother, Lew; and one sister, Mary.
