Note: John Thomas (Mildred's father) and Uncles Charles and Bud (sons of John Wesley Vickery) lived in Opelika, Texas, when Boyd was scalded to death from an explosion in a syrup mill. Buena died of whooping cough. Both children were brought back to Slocum for burial where John Wesley lived. John Wesley settled in Slocum after leaving Georgia, but his sons went to Opelika. John Thomas ran a general store and post office there. They later went to West Texas for two years when Mildred was young and picked cotton, before Ozell was born. Mildred graduated from Medical School in Houston in 1945 and in Dallas in 1946. She was almost 35 years old when she finished medical school. John Thomas first child (still born) is buried on the old place in Slocum. The family picture taken in 1919 was made when Margie was 3 months old. The picture has John Thomas, Lela (wife), Othal, Mildred, and Margie. John Thomas and Lela got too much DDT while living in the small house in Slocum that made them very sick and may have seriously affected their health. Mildred's house in Crockett was built in 1965 and has 2 large bedrooms, front living room, den in the back, kitchen, no dining room, carport for 2 cars, and flower rooms off the back. Her first marriage was approximately 1929-1939.
