a. Note:   Listed in Social Security records as Margie Benton. Divorced Atmar Pelham in the early 1960s. Moved to Macon, Georgia with Mr Benton in the early 1960s. During her later years (circa 1980?) she fell and as a result suffered chronic pain thereafter. Buried in Crawford Cemetery, near Slocum, TX. Information from Rachelle Pelham via findagrave.com: Margie Vickery married Atmar Pelham in Grapeland, Texas in 1947. The marriage was unfortunately not meant to last. She found the love of her life in later years. She and Mr. Benton remained married until his death. His family became her family and she thrived in the relationships that she built with the Benton family. Unfortunately she and her son Larry Pelham remained in and on and off again relationship that was held together primarily by her sister Mildred. In the last years of her life Larry Pelham Sr. and his mother were able to finally comes to terms with one another and the relationship finally developed into what it was always meant to be. ---------------------------------------- Obituary from the Palestine Herald Press, August 12, 1993: Margie Benton Services for Margie Vickery Benton, 74, of Elkhart, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Crawford Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Edwards officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Mrs. Benton died Wednesday at Elkhart Nursing Home. She was born in Slocum on June 30, 1919, to John Thomas and Lela Day Vickery. She is survived by her son, Larry Pelham of Grapeland; sister, Mildred Smoldas of Crockett; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
