a. Note:   Obituary and news article from the Harlan County Journal, September 8, 1949: MRS. W. A. MYERS CALLED IN DEATH This community was cast into sadness Monday when Mrs. W. A. Myers, a long-time resident of this community, was called in death. Mrs. Myers had suffered a cerebral hemmorhage early last Friday morning and her condition had been serious from that time until her passing, with very little hope held for her recovery. Mrs. Myers came to Nebraska in the year 1885, moving to Alma with her family on December 15 of that same year. She was a members of the graduating class of 1893 from the Alma high school and was employed as deputy County Clerk of Harlan county for a period of ten years following her graduation. After her marriage to W. A. Myers she continued to make her home in our city until 1920, when they moved to Kansas City, Mo., returning to Alma to make their home in 1942. During her residence in our city Mrs. Myers formed a large circle of loyal friends and acquaintances who admired her for her true Christian life and willingness at all times to assist her neighbors and friends in time of distress. Mrs. Myers took an active part in the work of her church, the P. E. O. Sisterhood and other worthy organizations, both in Alma, as well as in Kansas City. She held numerous responsible positions in these organizations and devoted considerable time to the betterment of the community in which she made her home. The Journal joins in extending sincere sympathy to members of her bereaved family in this, their hour of sorrow. OBITUARY Mrs. W. A. Myers Lovie Leota Graham, daughter of Thomas F. and Sarah E. Graham, was born near Columbus, Indiana, May 24, 1877. She died in Alma, Nebraska, September 5, 1949. With her family she came to Nebraska in October, 1885, and to Alma, Nebraska, Dec. 15, 1885. She graduated with highest honors from Alma high school in 1893, and was deputy County Clerk for over ten years. She was married to Wilsie A. Myers, a classmate, in 1905. They resided in Alma until 1920, then they moved to Kansas City, Mo., returning to Alma in 1942. They recently moved into a new home for which she had made extensive plans, but on account of illness was unable to complete her home. Her health failed about 1937 and she has been a patient sufferer with a complication of ailments until she had a cerebral hemmorhage on Sept. 2, which caused her death. She was a life time member and active worker in the Christian church, and was president for several terms of the Women's General Council of the Christian churches of Kansas City. She also was a very active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, being affiliated with Chapter D.O. in Kansas City, althought a former member of Chapter B.J. of Alma. On her return to Alma she took a very active interest in the projects here. She leaves her husband, W. A. Myers; a sister, Mrs. Lilla R. Gibbons of Highland, Calif.; two nieces, Mrs. Ruth Wilson of Rialto, Calif. and Mrs. Marjory Murdock of Venezuela, South America, and a niece and nephew, Mrs. Andy Haas and Glen Dow of Alma, other relatives and a host of friends. Zulauf's of Alma had charge of the arrangements for the service which was held in the Alma Christian Church, Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Howard Johnson officiated with Rev. R. H. Chenoweth assisting. Burial was in the Alma Cemetery.
