a. Note:   John Thomas Vickery is buried in Crawford Cemetary, Slocum, Texas. Tom J. Vickery is listed in the 1910 Anderson County, TX, census with wife Lela, son Boyd, and son Othel [ED 16 sheet 5]. Tom Vickery is listed in the 1920 Anderson County, TX, census with wife Lelia, children Othel, Mildred, and Margie [ED 168 sheet 1 line 38]. The restored family picture of John Thomas, Lela, Othel, Mildred, and Margie was taken approximately Oct 1919 based on the approximate age of Margie at 3 mos. Three earlier children (Boyd, Buna, and an unnamed infant buried on the old family place in Slocum) were deceased when this photo was taken. Counting the later births of OB and Ozell, the family had eight children in total. Had a second wife named Edna. Obituary found by Karla Lang of the Palestine Public Library: ------------------------------------------- Palestine Herald Press Wednesday August 19, 1959 John T. Vickery Rites Thursday Funeral services for John Thomas Vickery, 80, retired farmer and merchant of Slocum, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Slocum Union Church with Rev. Cecil Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford Cemetery, near Slocum. The Elkhart Masonic Lodge, of which he was a member, will serve as pallbearers and have charge at the graveside. Native of Senota, Georgia, Mr. Vickery was born November 9, 1878. He died Tuesday at 1:23 p.m. in a Pasadena hospital. Survivors are two sons, J.O. Vickery of Deer Park, and Ozell Vickery of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Mack Hooks of Crockett, and Mrs. Atmar Pelham of Grapeland; a brother, J.M. Vickery of Slocum; a sister, Mrs. O.C. Russell of Houston; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The body will be at Hassell & Foster until carried to the church for services.
