Duane Lee Dow Duane Lee Dow was born the last child of four children to Glen Glyth Dow and Mrs. Lois Viola (Mathes) Dow on February 19, 1935, at Alma, Nebraska. He departed this life Tuesday morning, September 14, 1993, while a patient at the Harlan County Hospital in Alma, Nebraska. His age was 58 years, six months, and 25 days. "Dewey", as all of his family and friends came to know him, grew to manhood in Alma. He was baptized in the Christian Church in Alma when he was a young boy. He attended school all twelve years at the Alma Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1952. "Dewey" served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 at Fort Polk, Louisiana. On March 6, 1959, Duane was united in marriage to Miss Mary Velma McDaniel at Ville Platte, La. To this union, four children were born, Theresa Sue, Mark Alan, Karen Lee, and Alice Marie. They made their home in Alma. In 1952, "Dewey" started in the painting business with Roy Hogeland. Later, he was employed by other contractors, including one in Colorado. In 1968 he started his own interior-exterior painting business which he operated until ill health forced him to retire in January of 1992. "Dewey" was a member of the First Christian Church in Alma and was a member as well as past treasurer of Alcoholics Anonymous and had been an encouragement to many. He was preced in death by his father on Feb. 20, 1965; and his mother on Aug. 14, 1980. "Dewey" leaves to mourn his passing, his loving and devoted wife, Mary, of their homne in Alma; one son, Mark and wife Stephanie, of Council Bluff, Ia.; three daughters, Theresa Weaver and husband Jack of North Platte, Neb., Karen of Norton, Kan., and Alice of Alma; six grandchildren, Megan, Kristi, and Amanda Dow, Jason, Joshua, and Tara Weaver; two brothers, John Elden Dow and wife Maxine of Winchester, Tenn., and Gerald "Jerry" Dow and wife Rachael of Hawarden, Ia.; one sister, Elma Jean Waggoner and husband Rolland "Pode" of Republican City; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in Alma with Pastor Glen Meyers officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Barbara Madison, soloist, and Miss Verdeen Leopold, organist. Pallbearers were Elden Dow, Jerry Dow, Harold Haeker, Raymond Huggins, Don Jardon and Keith Poyser. Honorary bearers were Mark Dow, John Millang, Jack Ott, Jack Weaver, Jason Weaver, Joshua Weaver, Clarence Waggoner, and Rolland Waggoner. Interment was in Alma Cemetery with military honors at graveside provided by Fay Cady American Legion Post #118 of Alma. DOW Duane L. Dow was the fourth child born to Glen G. and Lois Dow in February, 1935. He graduated from Alma High School in 1952 and served in the Army from 1957-1959. He married Mary McDaniel in Louisiana in 1959. They had four children, Theresa, Mark, Karen, and Alice, and six grandchildren. Duane, "Dewey", started in the painting business in the fall of 1952 with Roy Hogeland of Alma. Later he worked for other contractors, including one in Colorado. He started his own interior-exterior painting business in 1968. Mary has been employed at Colonial Villa in Alma for 16 years. They reside in the home built in 1879 by his great-grandfather, John E. Myers. Their daughter, Theresa, born in 1959, graduated from Alma High School in 1978 and married Jack Weaver of Stamford. They have three children, Jason, Joshua, and Tara and live in North Platte where Jack is employed by the T.O. Haas Tire Company and Theresa is a licensed practical nurse at the hospital. Mark was born in 1962, graduated from Alma in 1979, and married Stephanie Graham of Orleans in 1987. They have three children, Megan, Kristi, and Amanda. Their home is in Council Bluffs, Ia., and Mark is employed by Acura of Omaha. Stephanie is a secretary for an insurance company. Karen was born in 1965, graduated from Alma in 1982 and lives in Norton, Kan. Alice was born in 1969, graduated from Alma in 1989, is employed at the Colonial Villa in Alma and resides with her parents.
