Dow Frank W. Dow died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Dow, three miles southeast of Alma, Monday afternoon, December 27th, 1915, after a sickness caused by diabetes, covering a period of about seven months. Before contracting the dreaded disease, the deceased was a strong, robust man apparently enjoying the best of health, and in his sudden death friends are again brought face to face with the shocking uncertainty on an earthly existance. To those friends who knew him best his life was an inspiration and benediction. His place in their hearts is secure and his many deeds of love and kindness will remain as cherished memories long after his remains shall have returned to indistinguishable dust. His faults were but mole hills compared to mountains, when one considers his desire to always be ready and willing to extend a helping hand to those worthy of assistance. Frank W. Dow was born near Richland Center, Wisconsin, January 27th, 1874. Moved to Harlan County, with his parents, in the spring of 1884, locating on the farm south of Alma homesteaded by his father. Here he attended school and worked on the farm, later moving to Alma. In June, 1895, he was married to miss Nora Myers. To this union were born three children; one Naomi, having died at the age of eight years, death having resulted from the same disease as that contracted by her father. During his illness the deceased was given the best medical attention known to science in an effort to effect a cure, but death came instantly and peacefully on the day set forth above. Fully realizing that the end was near, Frank assured relatives that while he had put up his best fight to ward off death, yet, if his time had come he was ready and willing to submit to God's will. Funeral services were held at the Evangelical church Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Rousey. Interment was made at the Alma cemetery. The deceased leaves to mourn his death, father, mother, two sisters, a brother, wife, son and daughter, as well as a large number of sympathizing friends. Frank W. Dow is gone forever - may he rest in peace.
