Note: It is determined that Richard G. Ross was the son of George Ross based on the following. A Richard Ross is identified as the son of George Ross, and a witness to his burial, in George's burial record. Richard was also a witness at the marriage of brother Henry Ross to Charlotte Sawyer, the burial of sister Mary Ross Campbell, and a Richard Ross witnessed the marriage of Sarah Ross (shown as a potential daughter of George) and John Van Antwerp. A Richard G. Ross, husband of Henrietta Ames, died November 1, 1861, at the age of 72, and is buried in the Brigham Cemetery, in Brigham, Quebec. Brigham is not far from Dunham and Richard G., born about 1789, was of the approximate birth date and proximity to suggest that he was George's son. Moreover, a Richard G. Ross of Franklin, Vermont deeded land in Franklin to Artemus Ross of Dunham, Quebec--George's son--in 1838. This same Richard G. Ross would almost certainly have to be the Richard G. Ross buried in Brigham, Quebec and, given that he shared a Franklin connection with Artemus and deeded land to him (Artemus is known to have lived in Franklin in the 1830s long enough to have had a child or children there), Richard G. seems quite likely the son of George. Of further interest: a Richard "Rose" (per my reading of Vermont Vital Records) or "Ross" (per the "Book of Ross") married a Henrietta Mead in Sheldon, Vermont, in September, 1828. Could this have been the marriage record for Richard G. Ross and Henrietta Ames, with "Mead" being Henrietta's surname by a first marriage? Moreover, a William Ames of Johnson, Vermont deeded land in Franklin, Vermont to Amasa Ross (son of Purmort Ross, not discussed herein) of Franklin, in 1831: might this William Ames have been the father of Henrietta Ames?
