Note: D.A.R. Patriotic index Vol 2 page 196 Zedekiah South was in the 1779 Census of New Jersey, Zedekiah South served in the Revolutionary War from 1776-1778. He was a Shoe Maker, Harness Maker and Teamster. He applied for a Pension 19 Sep 1832 # R9940 while living in Glen, Montgomery Co.,New York, He moved from New Jersey, toNew York, shortly after the end of the war, according to his Pension Application, of which I have a copy. I have a copy of the receipt given him by David Olden, Commissioner of Clothing for Middlesex Co.,New Jersey, 1777 - 1779, for 21 pairs of shoes, on 3 Jun 1777 in stores purchased for the Continental Army. This is covered by a book by Dorothy Agnas Stratford called, " Certificates of Receipts of Rev."New Jersey, Vol 2, of, "Stores Purchased for Army". Published by Hunterdon House, Lambertville,New Jersey, It is believed that Zedekiah South had a brother named Benjamin South who was born in the same place. Benjamin was born Feb 1758. He married Elizabeth Slack and filed for a Pension # R 9939 , 27 Aug 1832 from Greene Co., Pennsylvania,, where he died, 2 May 1839. His widow died there, 3 Apr 1848, leaving children : Enoch South & Rebecca Minor children's birth dates , Sarah, born 14 Nov 1779, Enoch, born 27 Jul 1787, Elizabeth, born Jul 1778 & Rebecca, no birth date given. I also have a copy of this Pension application, in my records. Rena Marie Price Rossi received a supplement on Zedekiah, to the D.A.R. Merle Ralph Price also received a supplement on Zedekiah , to the S.A.R # 1282H9. Rena Cynthia South Price joined the D.A.R. on Zedekiah South. Viola Finch also joined the D.A.R. on Zedekiah South # 536130. Eunice Mae (South) Grabow , her daughter Lavonne and granddaughter Michelle all joined the D,A.R. on Zedekiah's Rev. War Service. Zedekiah South appears in the list of people living in in the township of Nottingham, Burlington Co.,New Jersey, who are deemed and considered part of the Militia of New Jersey,, in 1793, in an abstract and index by James S. Norton in the Warren,Ohio, Library O312.92 N824n. New Jersey, U.S.AGazette 30 Oct 1786 The creditors of John Lee, ZEDEKIAH SOUTH, and Hannah Shea, insolvent debtors, are to meet with Judges of the Hunterdin Co. Court of Common Pleas on the 21st of Nov at the Court House. In a letter from my cousin Grace Machler , She writes-- I think he is the son of Benjamin South and Keziah ?. According to tax records of Windsor Twp.New Jersey, Film # 0865477, Zedekiah is listed on a farm next to Benjamin in the Years 1779,80,81,82,83. In 1793 is listed as living in Burlington Co., Nottingham Twp.,New Jersey,. According to Benjamin South's, Will, which was proved 12 May 1800, he states he has another Plantation in Nottingham, which was where Zedekiah South was living before he went toNew York, Abt 1786. Benjamin's Will was witnessed by James McCabe, who was we believe, the parent of the wives of both Zedekiah and Lippington South. Benjamin's Will, states so much is to be given to each of his five children, and is stated in such a manner as to make one think that he had previously given moneys to other children , not mentioned in this Will.
