Notes
a. Note:   ince one of her sons is named Jarrett, which is a well known surname in VA where she and Micajah came from, that perhaps her surname was Jarrett. Careful research has only turned up one Nancy Jarrett of VA who would have been her age, but that Nancy was married all her life to a different man.
I likewise wondered if her surname was Berryman, since she had a son named John Berryman Turner. But again, I cannot find any record of a Nancy Berryman in VA who could have married Micajah Turner. Of course "Nancy" could have been her middle name; and also there are variations on the name Nancy such as Nan, Nanny, Nannie, Ann, Annie, Anita, Annette, Nanette, etc.
Hang those danged Yankees for burning so many records in Virginia!
In time, perhaps the proper records will surface, to reveal the last name of this most remarkable woman who helped pioneer northern SC as well as northern GA, and had at least 14 recorded children.
Did Nancy and Micajah also have a son named Bailus?
He was born a year ahead of their son Jarrett, in SC, and he and Jarrett were the only known Turners to pioneer Union Co. (Jarrett went over the mountains in 1832.) On the 1850 Census, Bailus is in Union Co., and has a son named Bailus as well.
I found an obscure source that says Bailus was Jarrett's and Berry's brother:
"TURNER - John Berryman "Berry" Turner m1 Rebeckah Etris - their dau Berrianna (later Barbara Ann) Turner m Isaac Seabolt m2 Jemima Wilson - their son Lafayette Turner b1870 - John Berryman Turner had brothers Henry Turner & Jarrett Turner."
(From: Marvin Berryman, on a website where he lists all uses of his family's surname that he has found over the years: http://pages.prodigy.net/berryman2/_wsn/page9.html)
Bailus / Bailis was born 1804 in SC. There is another Bailis Turner born 1797, also in SC, but who went to Pike Co., MS. Surely he is related to the GA Turners.
The 1804 Bailus is hard to find until 1850, when he is in Union Co., Ga, and the other, Bailis, is in MS. (The latter was also in MS in 1840.)
Note:   Many years of research have failed to discover Nancy's surname. It has been speculated that s
