Notes
a. Note:   Abraham was born November 27, 1818, about 7 months after his parents , Samuel and Elizabeth Newhouse (aka Neuhaus), were married. By 1841 he was still single, but was married shortly thereafter because his first child, William, was born to his wife Elizabeth in 1842. Her maiden name is believed to be Cole (aka Kohl). The source of this information has not been found at this time. She is also believed to be about two years older than Abraham.
By 1860, Abraham was living on a small farm next to his parent's farm. He was illiterate. In 1870, two sons, Joseph and John, lived with him, but for some reason the two youngest children, Samuel 13 and Mary 11, lived elsewhere. Samuel is listed in the Census as a "domestic servant" for a family named Job. Mary is listed in the Census as a "domestic servent" for a family named Stump. Her age was listed as "13" which is probably incorrect.
In 1880, we find Samuel Living with his parents and two brothers, John and Joseph. Since John is listed as head of family in the Census, we might assume that Abraham signed the farm over to him.
Abraham died on January 9, 1883 and his wife died on June 16, 1883. He was 64 and she was about 66 or 67. One wonders if there was a common cause of death. A newspaper abstract states the place of death near Congruity. No grave site has been identified to date.
