Note: Elizabeth, the oldest daughter of Samuel Newhouse, was known as "Eliza". According to the census, she could neither read nor write. At age 22 she had a child, Mary, apparently out of wedlock and never married thereafter. By 1880, she is 55 and living with her brother Josiah (Jesse); taking care of her 87 year old mother Elizabeth. Her daughter Mary and her sister Catharine are no longer on the farm.
Josiah, Elizabeth's brother, was listed as an heir to the estate of John M Rumbaugh (See Facts under Josiah). The widow of John M. Rumbaugh is Mary. Could this Mary be the daughter of Elizabeth?
