Today I did a time line on his Richards ancestors and the pieces fall together. David Jones Richards, b. 1881, Dad's grandfather had a strange upbringing. His mother, Bertha Jones Richards died in 1882 when David was 1 yr. old. His father, Lewis W. Richards, remarried in 1884 and obviously move to Mahanoy City. He was there in the 1890 Census. and David was living with his widowed grandmother, Mary Ann Jones until at least 1900. Lewis and Bertha lived next door to her parents in 1880, so obviously Lewis left his kids Annie and David with his widowed mother-in law and went on to Mahanoy City, remarried and had six more children starting in 1984. David was only 3 then when his father started a second family in a different town. By the time David Jones Richards married Hattie Bynon, the only relative in Lansford was his sister Annie and his mother-in-law Mary Ann Jones who died in 1906. Dad was born in 1902, and his father died in 1912. There were no more Richards closer than Mahanoy City and Shamokin by this time. His grandfather and most of his kids were in Shamokin, with a few of David's Uncles in Mahanoy City. But there was no one to tell Dad this by the time he would have been old enough to understand. All the Richards and Jones ancestors of Dad were Welsh coal miners except his father David who was a plumber. Time Line: 1876-Lewis Richards marries Bertha Jones, d/o David and Mary Ann Jones 1878-Annie Richards born to Lewis and Bertha Richards in Lansford 1880-David Jones died. He was David's would be Father-In-Law. 1880-Lewis and Bertha living next door her parents in Lansford 1881-David Jones Richards born in Lansford- my Grandfather. 1882-David Jones Richards' Mother died -Bertha Jones Richards 1884-David's Father Lewis remarries and move to Mahanoy City 1890-Lewis in Mahanoy City with his new family, with his father and uncles and their families. 1899-Lewis Sr. dies in Shamokin, his second wife goes to Philadelphia 1900-Lewis Richards and new family in Shamokin. 1900-David living with his Grandmother, Mary Ann Jones in Lansford 1902-Thomas Bynon Richards born to David Jones Richards and Hattie Bynon 1912-David Jones Richards dies. 1914-Lewis dies in Shamokin The Bynon's continue to confuse me as do the Zehners.. There were lots of them living in Lansford and Summit Hill and still are. Why did we not know of them-only Aunt Ella?
