He is listed with his father Daniel Siders, 40, his mother Re becca, 36, his brother Samuel F., 10. His father is said to work in the s teel factory. All were born in PA. In the 1880 census (E.D. 115, p. 2 9, Steelton Borough, Dauphin Co., PA) he is 17 and works in the steel mil l. His father, Daniel, is 49 and a laborer, his mother, Rebecca, is 45 a nd keeps house, and his brother Samuel is 20 and works in the steel mill. In a book by Gilbert W. Beckley, "New Cumberland Frontier", 1972, Jo hn Seiders is said to have "chartered" the Steelton Ferry in 1886 and to h ave operated it on the Susquehanna River between New Cumberland and Steelt on, PA, until 1888, when he sold it to James Zimmerman. Cynthia A. Miller, a genealogist in New Cumberland, PA, ga ve me a 24 May 1997 report from the Assessment Books For Newberry Twsp. ., York Co., PA held at the Historical Society of York County, York, P A. In 1888, 1889, and 1890 John Siders owned 23 acres of cleared land bou ght from Henry Delenger worth $920. In 1890 he also owned an "occupatio n" worth $100. Samuel Siders owned 94 acres. In 1892, included are Jo hn Siders, laborer; Daniel Siders, farmer; and Rebecca J. Seiders. In 18 93 listed are John A. Seiders, in The Globe newspaper of Harrisbur g, PA, Friday, Sept. 28, 1900, it is stated that a son John "also resid es in the borough". It is not clear if this is Newberry or Steelton, b ut I think Steelton. In the 1911 York Directory, Annie M. Seiders is list ed as the widow of John A. However, in the death notice of Samuel F.
