Note: The 1880 census indicates that he was born in Hannover, Germany. Ba sed on information in the census and in his ship's passenger list, he w as born in June 1952. It is my distinct memory that my mother told me th at his daughter Daisy was her 1st cousin. Thus, he is a child of Phili pp and Johanne Schaberg, even though he did not come to America on the sa me ship with his family. He may have been named for Francisca Schaberg, h is grandmother. Further evidence that he is the child of Philipp and Joha nne is the fact that in the census he gave the birthplace of his moth er as Brunswick, the place where Johanne was born, and the birthplace of h is father as Hannover, where Philipp was born. In the 1900 census he clai ms to have come to America in 1867, as his father also stated (erroneously ). He came to America on the bark Industrie, arriving in Baltimore from B remen on November 30, 1867. In the passenger list he gave his name as Fra nz Schaberg, his occupation as workman, his nationality as German, and h is age as 15 years, four months. At that tender age, he seems to have be en the advanced scout of the family in America. In Germans to America, h is name is incorrectly recorded as Franz Tihaberg. The Industrie was a bark of 602 tons, and carried 263 passenger s. As a bark, she carried square sails on the two forward masts and fo re and aft sails on the after (mizzen) mast. She had a length of 127 fee t, a beam of 30 feet, and a depth of 17 feet. She was built in 1857 in Ve gesack, near Bremen, by Johann Lange and was owned by a group in Breme n. Her master was Arend Hilcken, who was also part (2/8th) owner of the s hip. In the 1880 census he is living in Glen Rock, Pa., with his wife a nd two daughters, and is a shoemaker. In 1900 he lived alone in a rent ed house on McAlister Street in Hanover, Pennsylvania. He was naturaliz ed an American in 1880 in the Orphans Court of York, Pennsylvania. I ha ve the papers.
