Note: He attended Courtney School for nearly 12 years but did not graduat e. After school he worked on the farm and ran a dairy with his father. D uring World War II he moved to Newport News, Va., and worked in the shipya rd. Later during the war he went to Honolulu, Hawaii, and worked in the N aval Shipyard. After the war he returned to Yadkin County and worked f or the state highway department until he retired. He also built and r an a country store.
