Note: On p. 266, Abraham Ebersole was appointed guardian of minor children of Jo hn Zeither. Dauphin Co., PA, Orphans Court Records, book C, p. 434, Sep t. 6, 1810, petition of John Zeither son of John Zeither late of Lower Pax ton twp., Dauphin Co., Pa., who had died intestate in 1806 leaving 60 acr es of land there to his heirs a widow Magdalena still unmarried and 8 chil dren the petitioner John Zeither aged 21 years; Mary Zeither by her guardi an Henty Heigart; Barbara by her guardian Joseph Leighter; Elizabeth, Jac ob, David, Susanna, and Henry Zeither by their guardian Abraham Ebersole ( Throop, 8-18-1999). The dates of birth of the children, except for Jac ob who has a birth certificate, are determined by the date at which John b ought out the interest of each sibling as he or she became 21 years ol d. See compilation of Dauphin Co. deeds by Kathy Gates ("John b. 1762). He lived in Buffalo Twp., Perry Co., PA, around 1820. On the June 19, 182 0, he bought for $60 lot #7 in New Buffalo, Buffalo Twp., Perry Co., PA, f rom Jacob Baughman and his wife Magdalena (the former wife of John Zeitt er and David's mother). He is said to be David Sider of Buffalo Twp., Per ry Co. On the same day his brother Henry bought lot #8. This from Per ry Co., Deed Book 1, p. 336. In "Early Perry County People (prior to 1830 )", an index published by Perry County Historians, it is stated that Dav id Zider on 6-19-1820 bought lot #8 from J. Baughman and in 1822 sold L ot #8 to Peter Arnold. I presume that it is he who married Lydia Buchannan and is the same as t he David Siders in the 1850 census of Susquehanna Twp., Dauphin Co., PA, a ge 46. If they are the same he must have been older than this age indicat es, because he probably must have been 21 to have bought land in New Buffa lo, Perry Co., in 1820. I have therefore taken his birth as before 1799. In the 1850 census, Susquehanna Twp., Dauphin Co., PA, p. 220B, this fami ly is headed by Daniel 46 and Juliann 35. The original census is clear a nd the are names entered are plainly Daniel and Juliann. In 1852-1854 Mar riage Records of Dauphin Co., PA, from Throop 6-7-99, there is a June 2 5, 1854 marriage of James Seiders son of David and Lydia Seiders to Cather ine Shreiner daughter of Michael G. and Nanci Shreiner, by Rev. Charles Ha y, Lutheran. On p. 220A of the same census is Michael G. Schreiner and wi fe Maria, both 45, with a child Catherine 21. It is clear that these a re the two families joined by the 1854 marriage but it is not clear whi ch set of names of the Siders parents are correct. There is a notice in the Perry Forester about the estate of Robert Buchan an that mentions Lydia, married to David Zeider. I think it is clear th at this family is really David and Lydia, not Daniel and Juliann. The ori ginal record taken at the door must have been misread when it was enter ed into the census book.
