Note: Data on Jacob and his family, except as noted, are from a 12-7-2004 ema il from Jean Green [[email protected]@att.net]. She wrote: This is the informati on that I have about Jacob Seiter (that is the spelling on his tombstone a nd on the Huron County, Ohio death register) but the children went with Se itter and Seitters. Jacob married Christina Albrecht (later Albright) abo ut 1835 or 1836. I have been unable to find a marriage record from th em in Pennsylvania. Their first three children, William (1835), Catheri ne (1838), and Mary (1841) have indicated that they were born in or near P hiladelphia. The family moved in about 1841 to eastern Ohio and then to P lymouth, Richland County, Ohio before 1844 as son, Jacob was born the re in January, 1844. Jacob and Christina had at least five more childre n. Son Jacob is my great grandfather. I have no birth date for father Jacob except for the dates of 1813 or 18 15 from calculations from the county death register and the cemetery recor ds. i have no other information about his family except this paragra ph in son Jacob's write up in a book called The Centennial History of Oreg on published in 1911 page 659 and 660. It days: "He was born in Ohio, Ja nuary 31, 1844, and is a son of Jacob and Christina K. (Albright) Seitte r, both of whom were natives of Germany but crossed the Atlantic during th eir childhood days, becoming residents of Pennsylvania. Subsequently th ey removed to Ohio and settled upon a farm where they spent the remaind er of their days. Jacob Seitter spent his youthful days under the parent al roof, in the Buckeye state . . . After the war (civil) Mr. Seitter (s on Jacob) assister his father up to the time of his marriage, when he beg an farming on his own . . . ." Son Jacob and his brother, William, both owned brick manufacturing plant s. Jacob's was in Oregon and William's in Crawford County Ohio. At lea st two of the other sons were brick manufacturers too. Father Jacob died in New Haven, Huron County, Ohio on 21 April 1891 a nd is buried there. The death register states that he was 78 years old. The family is listed in the 1850 Richland County, Ohio census under the na me Snyder. All the names of the parents and the children match up with t he Jacob Seitter family. In the 1870 Huron County census, the name is spe lled Siders. By 1880 father Jacob is widowed and is living with his child ren in Huron County and son Jacob is in Dayton, Yamhill County, Oregon. In 1850 he is in District 127 Plymouth, Richland Co., OH, p. 191, as Jac ob Snyder 38 weaver Germany, with Christina 37, William 13, Catherine 1 1, Mary J. 9, Jacob 6, Magdalena 4, and Caroline 2. In 1860 he is in N ew Haven Twp., Huron Co., OH, p. 102, as Jacob Seiders 45 farmer German y, with Christian 44 Germany, William 24 farmer PA, Jacob 20 farmer PA, Ma ry 19 OH, Magdalena 15 OH, Carolina 13 OH, George 11 OH, John 10 OH, Charl es 8, OH, and Edward 6 OH. In 1870 he is in the same place, p. 367, as Ja cob Siders 56 farmer Wirtemberg, with wife Christiana, and children Magdel ana, Caroline, John, Charles, and Edward. |
