Note: Baton Rouge Advocate Obit: Gilbert Gates Harrell, a beloved brother and uncle, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Friday Oct 8, 2010 at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge. Gates was born March 27, 1932 in Colyell, Livingston Parish. He lived his entire life in Colyell and worked with his parents on the family farm for many years. he attended Colyell Baptist Church all of his life. He is survived by a brother, C.C. "Buzzy" and wife Ruby Harrell, and a sister in law, Margie "Teetot" Harrell. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Milbern and Marvin Zeigler, Louis, Chris and Joseph Harrell, Susan Watson, Sheri Harrell, Theresa Moreau, Doris Ann Forbes, Gary Harrell, Yvette Percle and Julie Pizzalato, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces , great great nephews, many close friends and relatives. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Christopher Columbus "Chris" and Simmie Nettie Harrell: two sisters, Janie Harrell and Dorothy Louise Zeigler, who has been missed greatly since her recent death: brothers, George Allen Harrell, Alcest Harrell, Doris Harrell and an infant sibling. Gates was a unique individual, never meeting a stranger and always checking on many of his close friends and relatives daily by phone. Visitation at Colyell Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct 9, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Sunday Oct. 10, from 1:30 p.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Bill Holifield and the Rev. Louis Harrell. Burial will be in Colyell Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Milbern, Marvin, Brent, Blake, Ace Zeigler and Louis and Joseph Harrell. Honorary Pallbearers are Chris and Gary Harrell. Special thanks to the staff at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice for the special care given.
