a. Note:   John married Elizabeth Bishop at Butternuts and moved to Gilbertsville where their three children were born and Elizabeth died. Afterwards, John married Elizabeth's sister Cornelia Bishop and moved to Mayville, Chautauqua Co., NY. Soon after, they moved to Wattsburg, Erie Co., PA where he was a blacksmith by day and taught mathamatics at night. Next they moved to Oberlin, OH where Cornelia and Alonzo were born.
  There were among the first settlers of Oberlin. Soon after, he was appointed an Agent of the American Missionary Society and given charge of the missions at Red Lake and Leach Lake, as Missionary to the Ojibway. Cornelia lived in Oberlin. She often had students at her home. After the children were married, she often went with John. After the Civil War, he was put in charge of schools, by the Freemans Bureau. At the time of his death he was a government agent among the Indians in Minnesota and lived at Leach Lake. After his death, Cornelia returned to Oberlin.
