Notes
a. Note:   Constante knew her in italy and wrote for her to come and he would marry her. Translation of letter written to Luiga by her Father. (Translation by Matteo Fassan) Valda, September 7th 1930 Dear daughter Luigia and all of your family, Yesterday evening we received your letter of the 21st of August. From the letter we understood that also in America there is misery (poverty), but it seems that the misery is all around the world. Here, until the first half of August it was fine, but begun the drought: because of the excessive heat, maize matured too quickly (without grains) and beans were removed from their posts. Yesterday night there was a severe storm that damaged all vineyards. Moreover, grape has been damaged by mold. In general, there is a lot of grass, and we do not have any fruits. There are some decent potatoes, but many are rotten. Giulio started is new job and is well. Eugenio stood for one month near Venice at the sea, but now he came back to his parents in Lavis. He will be back soon. Aunt Maria had to suffer a lot, but now has reached the eternity. Before her death came to Valda also Ambrosina and Carmela. Although the poverty, the street is full of cars, motorcycles and bicycles (especially on Sundays). They go to the Fiemme Valley, some to Lavis. There is an increased unemployment and basic necessities are scarce. In the night of the 22th of July there was a big fire in the house of Gian of Giannini. However, due to the wind and of the help of the entire community, there were only small damages to the roof, while hay was saved. In July, Beppi of Ceoli died after a protracted disease. He left his wife and the two little daughters. Uncle Angelo (?)is ill from some time but continues to work. The other day I had a severe back pain. I tried to treat him with patches, and I am now almost healed. Your mother is going well. Love to you all. Your father Benito (?) Savoi PS: greetings from all and all your family "Tonini" The valley in which she lived in" post mistris of Valda/teaching certificate
Note:   According to Sheila Barrong, Luiga was a mail order bride from Italy.
