Notes
a. Note:   I'm interested in your version of the family tree. I'm just beginning my exploration of the family, so your info would be most helpful. I recently found an old book, "The History of Boone County, Iowa" from 1890 which lists info on the Zenorville coal mines around the now forgotten town. It also lists this bio for James Zenor: "farmer and stock raiser; was born in Indiana, March 19, 1845; when he was five years of age, he emigrated with his parents to Des Moines, Iowa, and in the fall of 1861 he came to Boone. Iowa, where he was educated; he then commenced farming; his farm consists of 160 acres of well improved land and nicely fenced; he was married in Boone County, March 19, 1868, to Miss Ella Walker; by this union they have four children: Estella (born Feb. 3, 1869), Floyd (born Oct. 20, 1871), Hattie (born Sept. 5, 1873, Albertice (born June 2, 1876)." My Great Great Grandmother was Mary E Zenor born 1852 Died 1926, married to Samuel W. E. McGaw who was born 1851. They had a son George Fleming McGaw who married Hannah Blanch Caldwell. Does anyone have any information on these people. I know that somewhere down the line there was a Willard Zenor married to Alberta but I am not sure of her birth name. They moved to Idaho in the 40's with some of my other family. They had about 4 or 5 boys. Does anyone have any information on this family? I am the grandaughter of Willard and Alberta Zenor. My father is their second son, Thomas Alphons. There were many Zenor's where I grew up in Jackson Township about 10 miles east of Boone, IA. In fact there was a Zenorsville there which flourished for sometime. My sister went to the Zenorsville school when she was little. There were Zenors who farmed in that area also. I have a Great Grandfather, Dugald Gilchrist, who married Roxanna Zenor, 13 Feb 1879 in Boone County, IA. They had five children, William, Margaret, Thomas, Charles, and Grace. According to a letter I have, written by Grace, Roxanna's parents were Milan Zenor and Amanda Miller. With the exception of the letter I have from Grace, I have been unable locate anymore information of the either the Zenor family, or the Gilchrist family. Any information you could provide would be very helpful. William (Bill) Gilchrist Unitl 23 Mar 2002, please e-mail me at my home e-mail address as well as [email protected]@satx.rr.com. Married in 1896, Boone, Boone, IA to: Manda Nelson b1878 Boone, Boone, IA - d1909 Boone, IA Hi! I am just recently going through old pictures and am finding that at some time or another, my family of Zenors DID come from Iowa! My Great-grandfather, was Theophilus Boner Zenor. His son (my Grandfather),was Boner Mckinley (or McKinley Boner)Zenor. My Father, was Ralph Theophilus Zenor. I know that My Great-grandmother Sybilia, was living in southern Iowa, toward the time of her death. I have a picture of my Father beside the headstone of Theophilus B. Zenor. I am uncovering more daily. I may have to make a trip to the Zenor homestead to find out more, but at this point (living in Eastern Oregon) I would hope to find info without making that trip. Help?!
