Note: Served in the Navy. Took the marines in to hotzones in Korea. Later, served aboard LST 291, sank when it hit a coral reef. Were transporting Marines. All had to abandon ship and get in the lifeboats. Luckily, was another ship in the area who heard their SOS. (Per Dad, 2001) Dad's mother, Ruth Gladys Sessions, died when he was 2 years old. She slipped on the ice in the winter and ruptured her aorta. Per Aunt Linda, she managed to get herself up inside the pickup truck. They did find her and took her into the house. Called the dr. but he couldn't do anything for her. She died in bed at home the next day. Aunt Linda said that my Dad had said "Mama sleeps". He was young, only 2. He went to live with an Aunt, not sure which one, was either Louise Sessions or Hazel White. All the 6 children were sent to different relatives. Then Grandpa remarried to Esther Bailey and got the family back together. They went on to have 5 more children for a total of 11. Dad graduation from Shepherd High School. Was All-State in track and in football. Attended Alma College on a football scholarship.
