Note: ! I have done this before on the other compter and lost it so I will try again. ! this is the storry of my life ,for my children ,grand children and all who may be interested. ! I was born 2 oct.1928 in a little mining town in mexico, la noria Zacatecas not far from Sombrerette and Fresnillo, they were mining gold and dad was the mill superintendent ( youngest mill superintendent in the world acording to the engeneering and mining journal) we lived in a rock house not far from the mill so the fist thing I heard when I came into this world was the sond of a ball mill grinding ore.Grandma Zent(Ellen) who was a famous midwife all over Ariz. came down to deliver me, the story goes that she told the doctor that she would let him stay in the room while I was born if he would sit in the corner and keep his moth shut. I came into this world with all the parts where they were suposed to be and with no complacations.Even if Reese was out looking for the stork so he could shoot it down .When I was about two months old we received word that gradpa Montgomery had been in an accident and they didn't know if he would live thrue it or not, there was unrest in the area anyway so mom Reese Grandma Zent and I were all put on the train and we went to Ray Ariz. Of course I don't remember this but later I saw pictures of grandpa in a hospital bed with both legs in casts and suspended to the sealing with weights, he survived but he was never able to recover entierly .We stayed in Ray for quite some time ,grandma was running a hotel in Kelvin along with great grandpa Montgomery. On the train trip from Mexico the only colerd people Reese had ever seen were porters so while in Phx. one day he saw a collered kid and refered to him as a little "porto" every one got a lauph out of that. Dad stayed in Mexico to run the mill in spite of the revolution that was going on in the area until they finally closed the operation down ,they hadn't heard from him for several weeks then he sent a telegram from Marfa Texas that he was there and would be in Ray shortly. We didn't stay long after that in Ray as dad went to work in the Teniente mine in Antefogasta Chile we followed about a month later by train to NY city then by luxury liner from there thrue the panama canal and on to Atefogasta Chile they said that the ship was quarenteened when we got there because I had whooping couph must have been something else anyway they let dad come aboard for a couple of days until they would let us off, and I dont reemember one bit of that trip I was 4 at the time All I can remember of chile is loking at pictures much later of the trip and the house we lived in . we didn"t stay in chile long as the depression caused them to cut back personel and dad was given a choice of taking a lump sum and leaving or stay down ther at a reduced pay so he chose to leave . we took annother ocean liner from atefogasta to los angeles which I can't remember, and on back to Mesa ariz.where we lived in several different houses until they bought 5 acres on Horn Lane , at that time it was out in the country Horn Lane was dirt with open irregation canals running alongside the road and a row of cotton wood trees alonside the canal.I do remember that we would take slingshots down the lane and try to shoot doves on the power line or in the trees , I also remember the day that Bill was born on the 7 of Jan 1934.this place would probably be worth a lot now as it is real close to the temple.I started the first grade while in mesa for the first time , all i remember about that was that I didn't like red headed boys and I would run them off the school grounds none of them would fight just bawl and run home then I would get into trouble .Then we moved to Phoenix close to the Roosevelt school where they put me in the first grade for the second time we then moved to a house next to the river and central av. Dad had built a car from parts of several cars that made up a car looking like an old racer he needed transportation to go to a job at the Apache Junction as a cat operator ,later he joined the CCC as superintendent over the heavy equipment , at one time he was working on the park at south mountain and he came by the school with what looked like a very large crane , we also spent the summer on the Wallapai moutains where they were building the park there .Reese found an old croque set under the house so we cut off the handles and made a weapon out of them so we could go out hunting rattle snakes and there were many of them . Shortly after that we went to Cuba.I beleave it was in 1936,we went by train to Miami Fla. tghen by ship to Havana Dad met us there as he had been setting things up getting a house and all and also he wanted to check out the job to see if he wanted it or not ,he was hired as shift boss at 300 mo. which during the depression was good anyway he met us in Havana where we spent a couple of days then by train to Cristo Oriente Preovince where we were to spend the next 15 years . Dad told us in a letter that I would be able to have a horse when we got there so the first thing I asked him is where was my horse like he had it in his pocket. We saw a bunch of the historic sights in Havanabefor leaving . Cristo , a little sleepy town of about 1000 population counting the surrounding neighborhoods ,most of the people worked for the Cuban Minning Co but there were two or three large shugar mills in the area also the climate was semi tropical with a monsoon season when it rained every day green grass grew all year ,plenty of grazing for the animals and we did have animals , Chichens, pigs ,horses , cattle , dogs, a goat now and then and they were all to provide us with food and also to keep all of us busey so we eouldnt get into any trouble ( it worked ,we still got into trouble frome time to time )the people were very friendly and every adult there acted like he was in charge of our well being and would repremand us for doing something wrong not ony that but a report would eventually be given to dad and if the offence was sevear enough we were punished for it .Dad seemed to know our evry action good or bad .I went to the first grade again (for the third time ) but this time I couldnt pull the wool over the teachers eyes we were in a little co. school, one teacher Mrs. Hunterand from 2 to five students all in different grades anyway first thing she tested me and found that I did not know how to read boy did I get the attention then ,I did gain a couple or three years in the first yar but I was pushed to the hilt and then at home I was pushed some more . Mrs . Hunter would have a play every year I remember one time I was trhe mad hatter big production everyone had one or two rolls to play and all of the people in the american comunity would attend Generally held at the General Managers house or the club at the mine . !I was baptised by Bishop Elmer Brundage on 26 September 1939, in an irrigation ditch, in Mesa, Arizona, which was through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
