Note: !The following is from a newspaper clipping Lucille Wimer sent me: "Funeral services were held at the residence Monday afternoon for Edward H. Maurer, who died at the hospital June 13th, after a brief illness. Rev. R. W. Hepler officiated and internment was in the Faulkton cemetery. The Masonic services were held with Eric Nystrom giving the prayer and lecture. !Mrs. Eric Nystrom and Mrs. Max Moore sang, with Mrs. Hepler at the piano. Songs chosen were "Jesus Lover of my Soul", and "Sunrise". Pall bearers were, C. H. Wilhelm, Pat Holmberg, John Ramsdell, Hugh Turner, H. J. Larson and Edgar Niemeyer. W. J. Grater acted as usher. !Edward Henry Maurer, eldest son of Harriet Miller Maurer and Henry Maurer, was born at the farm home, Sicily Grove, near Cedar Rapids, Idaho. He received his education in the rural schools there and attended business college at Cedar Rapids. At the age of eighteen, he purchased the farm five miles East of Vermillion, which he still owns. !He was united in marriage 2 September 1885, to Christine Lillian Peterson at Vermillion. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last fall. They have three children: Mrs. Mae Sullivan; Clara, who is Mrs. P. J. Ruhaak; and Frank Roland, all of Faulkton. !Mr. and Mrs. Maurer lived on the farm at Vermillion until 1911, when they, together with their son, Frank, moved to this community where he purchased large land holdings, and operated the farm six miles South of Faulkton. Subsequently Mr. Maurer divided his Faulk county property among his children and in 1921 built the home in Faulkton, which he and Mrs. Maurer have occupied ever since. !He was interested in public affiars and had been a member of the township board and district school board in Clay county. He is a member of Faulkton Lodge No. 95, A. F. and A. M., the Vermillion Chapter No. 21 of the Royal Arch Masons and a Knight Templar of Vermillion Commandery No. 16. !He is survived by his widow and three children; his son in law, P. J. Rhuaak; daughter in law, Mrs. Frank Maurer; also seven grandchildren: Mrs. Ted Holmberg, Roland Rhuaak, Marlene and Frank Maurer, Jr., Mrs. Louis Wimer of Cottonwood, Idaho, Mrs. G. K. Stuart of Santa Ana, California and Donald Sullivan of Oak Ridge Tenn. The last three, due to the death of their father, grew up in the home of their grandfather. There are also three great grandchildren, Richard, Kay and Lynn Holmberg. He is also survived by two older sisters, Miss Ellen Maurer and Mrs. Emma Weineke, both of Laporte City, Iowa. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. !He was an energetic man and retirement did not bring an end to his activities. At the age of 80 he raised a large Victory garden, providing an abundant supply of vegetables. He took pride in his home and pleasure in his lawn and grounds, which he tended with greatest care and interest. He was a quiet unassuming man, whose pleasant ways endeared him to many friends. In all his business dealings his fairness and integrity earned him the respect of his associates. !He has been in failing health for several months and was taken to the hospital June 6th. He died last Thrusday, June 13th, at the age of 82 years and two days. !Present from a distance for the obsequies were: Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Swanson of Wausa, Neb.,F. H. Peterson, Shirley, Jimmie and Gary of Mesa, Arizona; Donald Sullivan of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Ed Girard and Mrs. Chas. Bruyer of Vermillion; Miss Hannah Sullivan of Sioux City, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Girard, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sullivan and Tommie, Miss Emma Bruyer, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Seney, and Mr. and Mrs. Roldand Girard, all of Burbank. !Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death."
