Note: !I got information from the Texas State Archives that Elida died in the Texas Confederate Home, Austin, Texas. They listed his occupation a farmer. He was in Company H, Cook's Regiment, and for Army: Trans - Miss. He came to Texas in 1852. His residence was Lockhart, Texas. He was admitted to the home 25 April 1927, with a disability of "old age". He had no religious persuasion, and died 22 December 1933. In case of death, write to Mrs. Mary Alice Watts, wife, (deceased). Son-in-law, F. H. Peterson, Mesa, Arizona. Shipped to Blanco, Texas. I have his death certificate. They put down he was a retired confederate veteran. !His death certificate showed he died of Senility. !From mother she said grandpa was 16 years old when he went into the Confederate Army - the Chaplin taught him how to read and write. She also stated that he owned a cotton mill where he ginned cotton - corn mill - and that he owned a lot of land. !Mother said her father was German-Irish descent - so did information from Lucille Wimer. !Also mother said there were 16 in the service - Confederate battle to the sea. Also his first wife Nancy's first husband was kin to Grandpa Watts." !The following is from Kay on her 1998 Christmas card: "My dad knew his granddaddy Watts very well and liked and admired him. He was in the Confederate Home for Soldiers in Austin, Texas, when Dad was at the University of Texas. !From Bill in May, 2000 - his recollections: Grandpa and Grandma Watts had a house West of our house at the ranch not very far. Grandpa passed away with a bursted appendix - infection set in. !Still from Bill: Grandpa Watts owned a saloon - Grandpa Watts said she wouldn't marry anyone that ran a bar, so he went right down and sold it. After he sold the bar, they migrated to McNeal, or Luling, and went into the ginning business. The corn boll worm came in and couldn't collect the money owed him, so he went broke and came out to Arizona. But he wanted to be buried with his first wife in Texas, Blanco, so MaMa was really hurt that he wasn't buried next to Grandma, her mother. !Grandma and Grandpa lived in the little house on the NE corner across to the house - walk across the pasture - not very long. Moved it where I remember it now, moved from South of Baseline. Then Grandpa moved out with Luther and kids working a garden. Raised prize watermelons. Then he moved to Texas. Health started deteorating and lived with MaMa and Daddy, where he broke his hip. The Doctor said he would never walk again. Threw away one crutch, then the other crutch, and went to the cane. Couldn't get away from the cane.
