Note: DESMOND of Springhill and Miss Bella WILLIGAR." (From the Oxford Journal, 31 Jan 1924) BAPTISM: "I have Baptised Edward Desmond the legitimate child of Richard Desmond & Hanna Maria George. Sponsors: Eddy Gillespie and Elizabeth Laqure. Hugh Malone P.P." Baptismal date precedes birth date as recorded in the 1901 census. DEATH: The funeral for the late Edward Desmond, well known resident of Parrsboro, who passed away on Oct 5th, was held from St. Brigid's Church on Monday, October 7th, with Rev. Father McCarthy officiating. The hymns sung by the choir were: Ave Sanctissima" and "Wilt Thou Look Upon Me Mother?". The pall-bearers were: A. McInnes, W. Wylie; B. Sheck and G.A. Gillespie. The sudden death of the deceased had shocked the entire town and district. He had worked the previous day and had not complained of being sick, but at an early hour in the morning aroused his family who immediately rushed for medical aid. He died in a few minutes of the heart action. The late Mr. Desmond was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Desmond of this town. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, one daughter, Audrey, at home; one brother, John, of Parrsboro; and four sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Thomas Antle); Liza (Mrs. E. Dryden); Alice (Mrs. C. Willigar); and Annie (Mrs. George Pleshaw), of Framington, Mass. Another brother, Captain Daniel Desmond, was lost at sea two years ago.
