Notes
a. Note:   Andrews was lost overboard off Thacher's Island." (http://www.downtosea.com/1851-1875/1862.htm) **NOTE: This Daniel Desmond was employed on a ship out of Gloucester, Massachusetts, so I do not know if he was a native of Newfoundland or Mass. More information on the schooner A. R. Andrews: "March 19, 1869 -- Loss of Schooner A. R. Andrews "News was received on Monday of the loss of schooner A. R. Andrews, Capt. Maker, of this port. She broke adrift on Georges during the gale on Saturday night, and was knocked down by a heavy sea. Her masts breaking off, she subsequently righted, and fortunately none of the crew were lost. "Without any sail to steady her, she was driven before the tempest, the sea often making a clean breach over her, while the crew had to lash themselves in the most sheltered positions of the wreck to avoid being washed away. "In this deplorable condition the brig Como, Capt. Williams, from Messins for New York, fell in with them, and after great exertions on the part of the crew, succeeded in saving the sufferers. They were blanched and frozen, with barely vitality enough to revive. Capt. Williams and his crew treated them with great kindness and brought them to New York, where he aided them on Saturday, and on Wednesday afternoon they arrived home. "The A. R. Andrews was 51.50 tons, built at Essex in 1859, and owned by Mr. Charles Parkhurst. She was valued at $3,400 and insured for $2,275 in the Gloucester Mutual Fishing Insurance Office."
Note:   DEATH: "On October 12th, 1862, a Daniel Desmond of the schooner A.R.
