a. Note:   Confederate Army. He was a Private in the 19th North Carolina Regiment (AKA 2nd North Carolina Cavalry), Company K and was present or accounted for through September 1864. He was reported as employed on extra duty as a teamster or wagonmaster in February 1865 (Volume 2, page 141, Moore's Roster). MILITARY: Information on Company K (Orange Co.): CAPTAIN: Josiah Turner, Jr. 1ST LIEUTENANT: William A. Graham, Jr. 2ND LIEUTENANTS: John P. Lockhart & James V. Moore. The regiment first assembled at Kittrell's Springs in August/September 1861. They broke camp in October and Company K was part of the Unit that marched to Edenton. They were not yet armed. By December the regiment were in New Bern and had horses but still no muskets. On 14 March 1862 they took part in the Battle of New Bern, then on to Wise's Fork near Kinston. At this time Company K had about thirty-five men carrying two Sharpe's carbines, six Hall's, five Colts', four Mississippi rifles and twelve double-barrelled shotguns. September 1862 found them at the Battle of Washington. MARRIED: 1867 -- February 3, Henry Murdock married Mariah Jackson. She was the daughter of George and Margaret Jackson. They were married by Wilson Brown, J. P. and the bondsman was George W. Walker. The witness was George Laws (Orange County, NC Marriage Book). LEGAL: 1880 -- November 1, Joseph C. Blake, trustee, deeded to Henry Murdock 128.8 acres on the waters of Forresters Creek for $990.40. This land adjoined other land owned by Henry but I could not find a deed registered to him for the other land. It was probably left to him by his father (Orange County, NC Deed Book 47, page 371). LEGAL: 1881 -- June 1, Joseph C. Blake, trustee, deeded to Henry Murdock 720 1/20 acres on the waters of Forresters Creek for $360.50 (Orange County, NC Deed Book 47, page 372). LEGAL: 1883 -- May 21, Henry and Mariah Murdock deeded to her brother, Wilson A. Jackson, two parcels of land, 97 19/20 acres and 72 1/10 acres on the waters of Forresters Creek (Orange County, NC Deed Book 48, page 88). LEGAL: 1898 -- June 1, George Laws and wife, Mary L., et al, deeded to Henry Murdock 245 acres near the waters of the Eno for $718 (Orange County, NC Deed Book 58, page 506). LEGAL: 1901 -- October 18, Henry and Margaret C. Murdock deeded to Nathan James, et al (his wife, Fannie), 171 acres adjoining Sam James and R. Nichols for $1000.00 (Orange County, NC Deed Book 72, page 180). LEGAL: 1902 -- August, C. G. Holt deeded to Henry Murdock land in Hillsborough for $600 (Orange County, NC Deed Book 56, page 570). LEGAL: 1905 -- December, Henry and Margaret C. Murdock deeded to Robert L. Murdock 245 acres near the waters of the Eno for $800. This was land bought from George Laws in 1898 (Orange County, NC Deed Book 58, page 508). LEGAL: 1907 -- August 17, Henry and Margaret C. Murdock deeded to J. C. Webb land in Hillsborough for $100. This was the land he bought from C. G. Holt in 1902. LEGAL: 1926 -- July 10, Henry Murdock swore to the facts for the Civil War Soldiers Pension. LEGAL: 1926 -- September 23, Henry Murdock's pension was approved. Too late, he was already dead! WILL: 1926 -- August 31, Henry Murdock's will was probated. His heirs were his wife, Margaret C., daughters Mary Frances Gordon and Margaret Gates, sons A. A. and R. L. Murdock (Orange County, NC Will Book J, page 425).
