Notes
a. Note:   Christian Schaefer immigrated to the United States in 1861. The sailing ship took 42 days to arrive at its destination. He filed his intent of Naturalization on November 5, 1867, and received his citizenship in 1880. In his early years in Fond du Lac, Christian was employed as a moulder. His first wife died in 1885 and he remarried in 1888. By 1900, Christian was a Saloon Keeper on Waupun Street, now the corner of Lincoln and Johnson St. The bar mirror, poker table and portrait of Uncle Sam came from his Saloon. He was Alderman of the 6th Ward in the City Council for a number of years. He was a veteran member of the International Order of Odd Fellows. He was also an important member of the group that built the Church of Peace in 1869. He is credited with providing the encouragement to continue the hard work after many hard times in the construction.
