Note: Vaclav (Wm Sr. 1878-1938) had a younger brother named Frank or Franticek. Frank had initially come to America some years before his brother Vaclav. Frank returned to the "old country" and urged his brother Vaclav to emigrate to America. They sailed together in 1904 as noted above, they sailed first class. There is no record of them at Ellis Island because first class passengers did not have to get clearance at Ellis Island. Frank did not settle in Illinois...he never married and he is found in Montana (draft card), then in Oregon where he died 13 Jan 1931. He was a cobbler and died in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR. Could you provide the names of the children of Frantisek Zid? I am searching for the parents of Vaclav Zid and his brother, Frank - born c.1875-1880. It is my understanding that their mother died in childbirth and the children were "raised by the nuns" until their father remarried. Vaclav married Barbara Krivan c. 1897 and they lived in Blatna (wherever that is), CZ Vaclav & Frank Zid came to America in the early 1900s - Vaclav (William) settling in Collinsville, ILL and Frank becoming a cobbler in Portland, Oregon. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Barb Terhune ================================ ZID + KRIVAN/KRIVEN in Prague c.1880s Posted by: Barbara Terhune Date: May 04, 1999 at 19:09:39 of 9297 I am seeking any information about my grandparents Vaclav ZID and Barbara KRIVAN (or maybe KRIVEN) who came to America 1904-5, and settled in Collinsville, Illinois. I believe both Barbara and Vaclav were born in Prague. Barbara Krivan b. Dec 17, 1869-73 and Vaclav Zid b. Oct 8,1875-1880. They were married about 1898-1899 I believe they were Catholic. Barbara had Krivan/Kriven nieces and/or nephews living in Bradislava when she emigrated. Vaclav made the journey first in 1904, Barbara followed about 9 months later with their son, Vanny about 4-5 and daughter Rose about 1-2 years of age. Vaclav's brother Frank Zid had emigrated a few years earlier. Any information greatly appreciated. Thank you.
