Notes
a. Note:   Barbara Krivan's parents were "well-to-do", owning a farm in Prague, Czechoslovakia. But Barbara was orphaned at about the age of 6. Her father was ill when he returned home following his Prague military service and died a short time later. Her mother passed away only a month after her husband. (something contagious?) She had two older brothers, both of whom were lost in World War I. One was killed and the other listed as missing in action. When the family farm was sold, Barbara inherited money (from sale) which was held in trust for her by the aunt and uncle who took her into their family. Jennie, said her mother, Barbara spoke 5 languages and often spoke of having a number of nephews and nieces in Bratislova, Czechoslovakia. [presumably named Krivan] Barbara arrived Mar 3, 1905 in Baltimore, MD (with her young son, Vaclav III [Wm Jr]. and daughter, Rose) about 9 months after her husband, who arrived at Staten Island sometime in 1904 during the St. Louis World's Fair. Her journey took about 3 weeks from Prague to America. She spoke of the ship being followed for several days by a whale that caused a great deal of agitation to the passengers who represented varied cultures, including a number of Turkish type people. Evidently this ship picked up passengers at many ports on its journey to America.
