Notes
a. Note:   Sterling Gazette Friday 6 October 1893 Last Thursday, the 28th of September, the spiritual life of Mrs. Peter Andreas was reclaimed, "and borne to those shores from which no answer is wafted back to those who inhabit this life." Mrs. Mary Andreas was the youngest daughter of Phillip and Mary (Book) Geist, and was born Dec. 8th, 1824, in Lancaster, Penn. She resided with her parents, until united in marriage with Peter Andreas, Oct. 10, 1844. They resided in that state until their immigration to Illinois, which event transpired in the spring of 1865. They bought a quarter section in, Sec. 25 of Sterling township, on which they resided until 1883 when they purchased a small tract of land in Sec. 14, where they have ever since lived. With the death of Mrs. Andreas there passes from us a noble and conscientious woman. None can realize the value and goodness she has done, but those who have been in constant relation with her. She was a kind and loving mother and always teaching her children in the true light. She was a hard working woman, from early morn to late at night, day after day, she could be seen going about her work with a cheerful frame of mind. But to all hard workers there is always an end; eight years ago while attending to her daily routine of work she was suddenly stricken with paralysis. Two years ago she received a second shock of that never curable disease, which rendered her as helpless as a child. From, that time onward she was dependent upon the members of her family for every aid. Ever since that fatal stroke she has been steadily and continually failing, rallying now and then, thus giving hope to her friends and family, but sinking gradually until last Thursday when this last vital spark was extinguished. She was a woman of high integrity and of unimpeachable-character. She was the mother of eight children, they are: Martin, Mary Ann, Kate, Philip, Amanda, Frank, Lizzie and Harry. The funeral was last Saturday at the old Mennonite church in Science Ridge, Rev. Philip Nice, officiating. Mrs. Andreas lacked but a few months of being sixty-nine years of age. The body was interred in the burial grounds of that place.
