a. Note:   Sterling Gazette, Friday, April 19, 1901 DEATH OF MRS. JACOB BOOK Funeral at Emerson Church at 1:30 O'clock Thursday Afternoon Stricken With Paralysis. Mrs. Jacob Book, a highly respected and well known woman residing in Hopkins township near Emerson, died at 1 o'clock this morning from the effects of a stroke of paralysis. The attack came on suddenly and unexpectedly about 9 o'clock in the evening and the victim soon lost consciousness and sank steadily until the end. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home, and a half hour later at the church in Emerson where Rev. Philip Nice of this city will conduct the services. The body will be buried in the Emerson cemetery. Mrs. Book, nee Mary Andreas, was born in Lancaster county, Pa., Nov. 13, 1846, and in consequence was now in the fifty-fifth year of her age at the time of her death. She came here with her parents when seventeen years old and was married to Mr. Book in 1867. Her husband and eleven children survive. The children are Mrs. Ida Hoak of Conway, Ia., who will be here at the funeral; Mrs. Hattie Rice, Aldus of Emerson; Charles of Steelton, Pa.; Frederick, who resides in the state of Oregon; Enos of Elmira, Wash.; Ira, Ralph, Walter and Eva, who reside at home. Her aged father, Peter Andreas, resides east of this city and her brothers, Philip, Martin, Harry and Frank reside in this city and vicinity, also three sisters, Mesdames L. Powell, A. Lehman and Rutt. Mrs. Book was stricken with paralysis for the first time about a year ago, and the attack which terminated her life, was the third. She was a woman of high character beloved by her family and highly respected by her neighbors who extend most profound sympathy to the friends.
