Notes
a. Note:   ions in this family tree which is only interesting, if you want to take the information about the places very correctly: The name of the parish, where the Borgstadt family obviously comes from, is Werther. It is about 10 kilometres north-west the town of Bielefeld. Indeed it belongs to the province of Westphalia. But in a way it is not correct to call it "Germany" because Germany was no political unit before 1871. It consisted of a lot of sovereign states, the biggest of which was Prussia, and Westphalia was a province of Prussia. In 1871, after a common "German" war against France, about 20 German princes united and declared the Prussian king (Wilhelm I.) to be the German "Kaiser" (emperor). Before, Germany is no state, but only a cultural and geographical factor. (So your forefather Johann Heinrich Borgstadt cannot have served German military before 1856, because there was none, surely he served Prussian military.)"
