Note: From a letter by Aunt Francis (Harley) Zimmerman, Son of Ben Zimmerman, her maiden name was Ison: "...The Miss Z. that visited her Grandma Baldwin was one of Uncle Roy's and Aunt Mattie's daughters. Emma Baldwin was Aunt Mattie's sister. You see my father, Enoch Ison, was married to Hattie Brown(Aunt Mattie's sister). She died and six years later he married my mother. Boar*F*W*46*S*NY*NY*NY --------------------------------- Information from Lucille Warner via Nancy Zimmerman Dunham: "The Lake Odessa Wave-Times - Friday, April 15, 1910: 'Mrs. S.P. Brown and daughter Beatrice spent Saturday in Lansing'. They were on their way to Charlotte. Rush P. Baldwin of Charlotte, Michigan and Emmaline Brown of Lake Odessa, Michigan were married in Charlotte on April 9, 1910 by Rev. Clarence W. Long. Witnesses were Ernest G. Pray of Charlotte and Beatrice Brown. In June they left for a ten-day visit at and around Bloomville, Ohio, their old home, visiting a brother of Mr. Baldwin and other relatives and friends. In 1912 they moved to Portland. Portland Observer - Friday, March 18, 1915: 'Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Baldwin went to Allegan, wednesday for a brief visit with the former's son, Lee Baldwin and family. They will go from that place to Charlevoix, where Mr. Baldwin owns considerable real estate.' June 10, 1915: 'Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Baldwin have returned home from a two months' visit with friends and relatives at Charlevoix, Boyne City, East Jordan, Central Lake and Ironton. Amont the interesting features of the trip were the fishing expeditions Mr. Baldwin enjoyed at Boyne City.' April 27, 1916: 'Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Baldwin left, Tuesday morning, for Central Lake and Charlevoix, where they will spend several weeks with relatives. Mr. Baldwin owns a farm in that section and may dispose of it before his return, having received a number of very attractive inducements to sell.' June 22, 1916: 'Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Baldwin returned, Tuesday evening, from a two months' stay in and about Petoskey, Charlevoix and Ironton, Mich.' They lived on a farm one mile west of Portland on old U.S. 16. After farming they moved to town and lived at 357 James Street, Portland, Michigan. He worked in a factory. Portland Observer - Thursday, July 20, 1922 - 'The R.P. Baldwin residence on James street has been purchased by Edward Steward.' After that (R.P.'s death) Emmaline returned to Torch Lake. For many years she made her home with her former brother-in-law, Charles Powell, in Torch Lake. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Emma Warner in Norwood Township, south of Charlevoix, January 9, 1943 (88 years, 6 months, 10 days). Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery at Eastport." --------------------------------- Information from Lucille Warner via Nancy Zimmerman Dunham: "EMMALINE OBERHOLTZER was born June 30, 1854 in Pennsylvania. She came with her family to Michigan at the age of eleven. On November 6, 1870 she was married to Sylvester Brown in Sebewa, Ionia County, by E.L. Carpenter, Justice of the Peace. Witnesses to their marriage were Sam Oberholtzer and E.C. Carpenter, both of Sebewa. They had ten children. her husband passed away April 11, 1904 (57 years, 8 months, 9 days). Later on she moved to Lake Odessa. Oh April 9, 1910 she married Rush Porter Baldwin of Charlotte, Michigan. He passed away July 22, 1921. For many years she made her home in Torch Lake with her former brother-in-law, Charles Powell. She passed away at the home of Emma Warner, in Norwood Township, south of Charlevoix, January 9, 1943 (88 years, 6 months, 10 days).
