Notes
a. Note:   Twin to Deba Information from Lucille Warner via Nancy Zimmerman Dunham: "CLARA OBERHOLTZER was born December 28, 1859. She was a twin sister to Deba in Lake Odessa. She was married to Mr. Cole. They had two sons, Frank Leroy (they called him Roy) and Jesse. Later she was married to Charles Nothern Powell and they lived in the Torch Lake area. They had a son, Douglass Earl, who was born in 1895 and died November 2, 1912 (17 years, 8 months, 15 days). He had been ailing all summer, but nothing was thought to be serious. He was under the care of Dr. yerkes, who pronounced it as yellow jaundice and heart trouble. His death certificate stated he died of liver trouble. Clara was operated on for cancer at the Reycroft Hospital in Petoskey and died a few days later, June 20, 1921. The funeral was at their home and the services were held in the open. The following month Roy Cole purchased the Charles Powell property which consisted of a farm, cows, horses, and farming implements. Charles Powell moved to Detroit but later moved back to the vicinity. Clara's second husband, Charles Northern Powell, was born February 14, 1865 in Brockville, Canada and at the age of two years come with his parents to Milton Township, settling on a farm on the shores of Torch Lake, where he spent his early life. In 1889 he married Emma Peckham who died three years later and in 1892 he married Clara Cole. He was one of the Cameron Tug captains who pioneered in the towing of masses of logs during the lumbering days on Torch Lake. In 1944 he sold his farm in Torch Lake Township and purchased a residence in East Elk Rapids and lived there until his sudden death, October 7, 1946, at his home at the age of 81. He was buried in the Lakeview Cemetery at Eastport." ---------------------------------
