They had four sons: Howard, Roy, Jr., Merritt and William, and five daughters: Maxine, Shirley, Esther, Mary Jane, and Nancy. Merritt died in Okinawa during World War II and another son, Jack died in infancy. Roy worked in the tannery in Kegomic, outside of Petoskey. Roy and Mattie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary January 8, 1959. Roy died October 26, 1961. Mattie died July 9, 1969.
