Notes
a. Note:   U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 about Catharine Hite Name: Catharine Hite Gender: female Birth Place: OH Birth Year: 1843 Spouse Name: Franklin D. Zimmerman Spouse Birth Place: OH Spouse Birth Year: 1845 Marriage Year: 1867 Marriage State: OH Number Pages: 1 From "Family Tree of John and Rebecca Zimmerman" by Kathryn May Zimmerman Sertich and Dorothy Alice Zimmerman Scott, July 8, 1989: Loren Zimmerman, son of John Zimmerman says that the Hites came to Ohio from Virginia in the sixteen hundreds. She was part german. She was English, Irish, Dutch, and German. She was a religious woman and read the bible to her children daily. Our Dad used to tell us a story of his grandmother, who was chased by wolves. I don't know if that was in Ohio or Michigan. She was living with his parents on their farm when she was asked to go to a neighboring farm to help butcher. She was skilled in making sausages cutting various parts of the hog or beef and was greatly in demand. She worked all day and was given a share of the meat for her help. She was on her way home and was walking when she noticed a pack of wolves some distance behind her, stalking her. She knew that they smelled the meat she was carrying. She was also some distance from home and even if she threw the meat to the wolves they would soon eat that ahd she would be next. She cut a small piece of meat with her butchering knife, threw it toward the wolves. While they were fighting over it she ran as far as she could. She repeated this as long as her meat held out. Her meat was gone when she got to the homestead of her son. She screamed, "Frank! Frank!" He came running out with his gun and started shooting wolves. --------------------------------- In the 1850 census of Sandusky County, Green Creek there is a daughter Catharine that matches with her age: The reading is as follows: Martin Hite 39 yrs h/o family Farmer born Ohio Lucinda Hite 43 yrs w/o Martin born Virginia Elizabeth Hite 16 yrs d/o Martin born Ohio John Hite 14 yrs s/o Martin born Ohio Isaac Hite 12 yrs s/o Martin born Ohio Mary O.
