Notes
a. Note:   From the "Hites of Fairfield County, Ohio" Newsletter: "They probably lived near the point where the present day counties of Page, Shenandoah, and Rockingham border. ...Page County was formed (in) 1831 from Shenandoah and Rockingham Counties. Shenandoah was formed in 1772 from Dunmore (now Frederick since 1778) and Rockingham was constitued in 1778 from Augusta County." "...between 1801 and 1809 about 30 to 60 families left the area southwest of Luray, Virginia and moved to Fairfield County, Ohio. ... Andrew's (uncle to Isaac and Brother to Abraham) foreparents were in the colony with William Penn in 1682. They moved to Rockingham County, Virginia in the fall of 1801 to Fairfield County, Ohio" --------------------------------- From the "History of Sandusky County, Ohio" (1882): About 1835 the Hite Family came to the southeast part of Jackson Township, Sandusky, Ohio from Fairfield County, Ohio. Isaac Hite, Sr. had 5 sons all who lived and died in the township except Isaac, Jr. who died in Michigan in 1881. He also had 5 daughters. The list follows: Abraham Anna John Sarah Isaac Polly Thomas Nelly(Eldridge) Martin ** Betsy Isaac Hite, Sr. married again and had 7 more children. In 1839 was found land entries for improvements in Jackson Township, Sandusky County: Isaac Hite Section 25 Acres 40. Green Creek was detached from Old Sandusky in 1834, and lies mostly in Ballville Township (bordered on north by Sandusky twp and Fremont, on the south by Seneca city, on the east by Green Creek Township, and on the West by Jackson twp.). A class of the United Brethern in Christ was formed of citizens living in the mouth of Wolf Creek. The list of first members was called the "Clinger Class". On that list of first members were Lucinda, John, and Lucinda B. Hite. The church was called the Wolf Creek Congregation. Note: The other two churches listed with this one are the United Brethern Church and parsonage at Green Springs (Rev.S.H. Raudabaugh) and Mt. Lebanon United Brethern Church which is 2 miles southeast of Fremont. We talked with one of the pastors of the First Brethern Church in Fremont (216 S. Park-T.J. McGlaughlin and Ed Miller Co-Pastor's) but he was new there (they just moved in) and he was sure that they were not a faction of the United Brethern. There were no other Brethern Churches in Fremont or the surrounding area. I called the one United Brethern in Christ Church in Columbus, Michael R. Brown pastor, 7177 Central College Rd., Westerville, regarding the history of the church or the Wolf Creek Congregation and to see if they have some historical records on the church formation in Ohio, today(Mar7,1994) and am awaiting a return call. -------------------------------------- History of Jackson Township: 1st bought in 1827. United Brethern Church History ("History of Sandusky County"): Organized in Baltimore Maryland, in 1775. Founder Rev. William Otterbein, a minister of German Reformed Church. He was a missionary from Dillenberg, Germany to the USA. After preaching in PA and N. His colaborator's were from the Mennonite and German Reformed Church. Their first meeting was in Lancaster PA with members of the Luthern, German Reformed, Mennonite, Tunker, and Amish persuasions. Among the earliest religious workers in Sandusky county were the local and travelling preachers of the United Brethern in Christ. 1822 - Rev. Jacob Bowles came from Frederick County, Maryland, and settled in Lower Sandusky (now Fremont), Ohio. 1829 - Sandusky Circuit was formed. 1881 - Circuits = Green Creek, Bay Shore, Sandusky, Clyde, and Eden 1834 - Green Creek was detached from Sandusky and lies mostly in Ballville township. *A class of the United Brethern in Christ was formed of citizens in the mouth of Wolf Creek. The cost for will information was 10.00 and to be specific what you want a copy of so you get all the information. She also suggested that I check the "Ohio Cemetary Book" put out by the Ohio Geneological Society. From the "Ohio Cemetary Book": The location for the Hite Cemetary: S 36. Off road, No lane.
