Note: Wednesday, February 26, 2003 The Halifax Herald Limited MITCHELL, Leonard MITCHELL, Leonard - 80, 60 Chadwick Pl., Halifax, passed away February 24, 2003, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Liverpool, England, he was the son of the late Leonard and Eveline (Oliver) Mitchell. He immigrated with his parents to Canada in 1925. He graduated from Dalhousie University with degrees of B.Comm., and LLB. A veteran of the Second World War, he served with the Canadian Armoured Corps and continued to be active with the Milita holding the rank of Major with the Halifax Rifles. He was past master of the Royal Standard Lodge No. 398. He was an avid Blue Jays fan. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Zinck); daughters, Judith (Vincent) Young, Shad Bay; Diane (Alain) Roy, Fall River; sons, Leonard, Halifax; Derek, Calgary; grandchildren, Vincent, Stephen, Heather, John and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Riley and Joshua. Remains are resting in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, between the hours of 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Snow's Chapel, Rev. Peter Armstrong officiating. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Lung Association of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
