Note: r, Joseph on the 25th of November 1853. They arrived in New York on the 11th of January 1854 on the Ship "Catharine", departure Antwerpen, Belgium. They lived in New York state for 6 months, then moved to Pennsylvania. Here they lived for 8 months before coming to Ohio in 1855. Taking up the mason trade, he lived in Crawford County, Ohio for 8 years. They then lived in Sandusky County, Ohio for 1 year. Max was united in marriage to Elizabeth Smith of Crawford County, Ohio on February 7, 1865. They all moved to Defiance County, Ohio and settled in Tiffin township where they bought 44 acres, District # 9. He died on July 30, 1917 in Tiffin township, Defiance County, Ohio.

They travelled together with the family of their aunt Elizabeth Zipfel, married name Herz (Joseph's sister, married to Fridolin Herz).
