Index GLA: 1853, Auswanderungsakte Bezirksamt Breisach (Staatsarchiv Freiburg, Signatur Nr. B 694/1, Nr. 962) Joseph Zipfel made three applications for the permission to emigrate from Baden, the first in 1833 (GLA No. 151285), the second in 1837 (GLA No. 151284, and finally the third in 1853, after his wife Theresia Binz had died. He left G�undlingen 10 Oct 1853. The daughters Theresia and Rosa followed later in 1857. They travelled together with the family of their aunt Elizabeth Zipfel, married name Herz (Joseph's sister, married to Fridolin Herz). Joseph Zipfel left Baden on 25 October 1853. He lived in New York state for 6 months, then moved to Pennsylvania. Here he lived for 8 months before coming to Ohio in 1855. Son Max took up the mason trade while living in Crawford County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Smith of Crawford County, Ohio and lived there for 8 years. They then moved to Sandusky County, Ohio for 1 year. Their family and Max's father, Joseph then moved to Defiance County, Ohio and settled in Tiffin Township and bought 44 acres. Here Max and Elizabeth raised a family of 10 children.
