Note: Ervin was birthed by Dr. Goggins in the front bedroom upstairs in the Zippel Home Farm. The story went that Goggins was in a hurry, used forceps and there was always a story that Mother had been hurt. --Press-Gazette clipping, undated Ervin Zippel Gets Ripon Highest Honor At exercises held at Ripon College a few months ago, honors were conferred upon Dr. Silas Evans, retiring president. Of great interest to Oconto Falls was the conferring of the S. N. Pickard award to Ervin Zippel, as the student best exhibiting athletic ability, scholarship and loyalty. Ervin, who is a graduate of the Oconto Falls High School, received the beautiful plaque on which is inscribed "For the Best All-Around Ripon College Man, on Basis of Athletic Ability, Scholarship, Leadership, Character and College Loyalty." Congratulations, Erv! We, your home town friends are mighty proud of your record. The excellent qualities for which you were commended were known to us when you were in high school, and we are happy that you continued to develop these splendid attributes. His college work included R.O.T.C. in which branch he attained the rank of Cadet Major. Ervin is now an officer's candidate at Fort Benning, Georgia with the 10th Co. 3rd S. T. R., where he is taking a refresher course. He will receive his commission at the conclusion of the course this fall. We are sure his friends join us in extending warm congratulations and all good wishes for the future.
