a. Note:   Oconto County Reporter Feb. 17, 1893 John Spies left the first of the week for Milwaukee, and will make that city his future home. John Spies, Hospital Sponsor, Died May 5 Services were conducted at Evergreen cemetery here Tuesday afternoon for John S. Spies, long-time member of the Oconto county hospital board, who died at his home at Shawano May 5th. Mr. Spies was born in Oconto and spent most of his life here before moving to Gillett a number of years ago. Spies, who was widely known for his articles which appeared in a number of national magazines, was one of the original members of the Oconto City and County Hospital Board when the organization was formed 25 years ago, and has been active in the hospital work ever since. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. L. A. Cook of New York, and by several nieces and nephews. Oconto County Reporter/Herald, May 9, 1946
