Second newspaper clipping: " CROSS - In this city, January 13, 1924, Almira Day, widow of Issac Cross, Jr., aged 77 years. funeral services will be held at the Sough Park Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock." . "Aunt Al" as a widow lived at the NE corner of Washington and Buckingham Streets, Hartford, CT. Entrance to her living room was gained through a fascinating (to a sub-teenager) curtain of glass beads and inside was a large music box which played huge metal records at least two feet in diameter. This is now in the Midlothian TX home of her great-grandson, Eric S Zipp. Her obituary in the Hartford Courant 1/16/1924 states: "In the death of Mrs. Almira Day Cross, Jr., which occurred Sunday, January 13, Hartford loses a woman who, for nearly half a century had been an inconspicuous, but earnest and indefatigable worker for individual and civic righteousness; a worthy descendant of families whose names rank high in New England. She was born in Westchester, Conn., 11/14/1846, her mother, Clarissa Brainard Day, being a direct descendant of Captain William Brainard of the 25th Regiment of Connecticut Militia, who was given his command by General Jonathan Trumbull. From this Brainard family came Leverett Brainard, former Mayor of Hartford, whose son Morgan B. Brainard is now president of the Affiliated Aetna Companies, while another son, Newton C. Brainard has been Mayor of Hartford and is at the head of the Case, Lockwood & Brainard Co. Her father was Stephen Brainard Day, one of a family which has been numerous and prominent in New England. Hon. E. S. Day of Colchester, who represented the United States as Consul to England, was of this family, and Edward M. Day, his son, is now a prominent lawyer in this city. "On 6/15/1875, Almira Day married Isaac Cross, Jr., afterward president of the old Connecticut State Mutual Insurance Co., and later associated in the insurance business with Franklin A. Morley. They had five children, all of whom are now living: Harry I. Cross, now connected with the Brownell Company in Moodus, CT; Charles M. Cross, a consulting engineer with the Springfield, Mass., division of Westinghouse Electric Co.; Mary A. (now Mrs. Charles A. Zipp, Jr.) Rockville Center, Long Island; Marion C. Cross, physical director of the Westfield Normal School, Westfield, Mass.; and Myra D. (now Mrs. Roland F. Home) of Plain field, N.J. There are eight grandchildren. "For forty-eight years Mrs. Cross had been a member of the South Park Methodist Church and a worker in its various organizations. She rendered valuable service for many years in the Hartford W. C. T. U., of which she was the former president, and was an officer and an efficient worker in numerous religious and philanthropic organizations. The funeral, held Tuesday at the South Park Church, was attended by a large number of friends and relatives, and the casket and altar were buried under fragrant floral tributes of love and appreciation. Her long life of unselfish sei was fittingly eulogized by the Rev. F.F. Voorhees, and the church quartet sang her favorite anthem, 'Some Blessed Day."
