Note: Harriett was born on Nov. 15, 1915, on a farm southeast of Pratt, to Jacob William and Zola Jane (Megaffin) Hamm, and passed from this life on Oct. 7, 2015, at her Enid, Okla., home under the care of Hospice Circle of Love. She attended school at Glendale Grade School, and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1934 from Isabel High School, Isabel, Kan. She then attended Friends University in Wichita, Kan., earning her teaching certificate. Harriett taught school for several years in Isabel, Turon and Preston, Kansas elementary schools. On June 7, 1941, she married the love of her life, Woodrow Wilson Brown, and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage before Woodrow passed away June 6, 2007. She remained on their family farm until August 2012, when she came to live with her daughter, Jane, in Enid, Okla. Harriett spent her life as a loving farm wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, spending many hours preparing meals, sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting and reading. She was an avid reader, and read almost up until the day she passed this life. Her kind, loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was a charter member of the Preston Home Demonstration Unit (EHU), taught Sunday school for many years, and was involved in many volunteer organizations. Helped many years with the Pratt County Fair Kitchen, attended her children�s and grandchildren�s 4-H, school and sports activities. She also sang at many funerals and was a member of the 75er�s organization in Pratt, and Preston Senior Center, Preston. She is survived by her children: daughter, Jane and husband Dr. Mike Martin of Enid, Okla., their children, Jayna and Neil Brown of Denison, Texas, Jamie and Summer King of Carrier, Okla., Amy Martin, Enid, Okla., and Nick and Joy Martin, Durango, Colo.; son, Paul and Brenda Brown, Preston, Kan., their children, Kim and Corey Muther, Topeka, Kan., Justin and Marijose Brown, Guatemala City, Guatemala, and Megan and Rodney Henry, Hutchison, Kan.; her brothers, Warren and Helen Hamm, and Lee Hamm, both of Pratt; and sister-in-law, Elaine Hoge, Wichita, Kan.. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow; her parents; one sister, Laverna Swafford; and one brother, Dale.
