a. Note:   He served in the Confederate Army from early 1863 until after the war, mostly with General Lee in Virginia. Went to Putnam Co., Indiana around 1869. Met and married Amanda Ellen Lookabill in 1871. He built a large cabin near Mandy's parents. His main crop was potatoes, and the old homeplace is still known as "Tater Ridge". Nine of their eleven children were born there. Came to Grant Co., Kansas in 1888. David and Amanda lived on thier homestead known as Tanglewood Grove, But later moved to Ulysses. David was a Lutheran; Amanda belonged to the Christian Church. Both were Democrats. Moved into the city of Ulysses in 1923. Both buried in Old Golden Cemetery, Grant Co., Kansas.
