Notes
a. Note:   Letter addressed to: Mrs. Mary E. McGillivray Beverly, Randolph Co., West Virginia from her brother O. W. Rummell: Spencerville Ind. Jan. 19, 1865 Dear Brother and Sister, I once more enjoy the privilete of addressing a few lines in answer to your received a few days since. I am happy to state that we are well and in the enjoyment of all that is essential to make life agreeable and happy. Our little Martha Elizabeth is getting so that she is very interesting. She will be two years old in February, and we was married three years ago on the fifth of Jan. Last night and today snow fell nearly one foot and we anticipate a good time. I begin to think the Jeff Davis dynasty is on its last legs and that soon he will have to knock under to better laws and a better Government. And I hope that Brother Blackman wil have patriotism enough to never concent to be exchanged into the Rebel service again. If he does, I do declare that I will never recognize him as a Brother. What has become of B. L. Brown and his family? Are they in Rebeldom? Where is David Goff? We have been having a big meeting here, lasting over two weeks. It closed last night and the preacher left my house only a few minutes ago. Do you hear anything from any if the Boys? Does Lunty say anything about coming home? Who of all the Boys about Beverly went into the rebel service? What became of D. Blackmans negroes? Did they run off or what became of them? Who did Ann Chinowith marry? Who are loyal people in Beverly and who are traitors? I have not had a letter from father for a long time and I don't care wether I ever do or not. I shall Bow to no man to get his good will. If he does not like me he can take the leave of me. The friends are all well. My love to all. Yours O. W. Rummell
